Planning for care
Funding care, without the guesswork.
The financial side of care can feel unfamiliar. Here is a straightforward place to begin, with no assumptions about what is right for your family.
Every fee conversation begins with the person, not a price list.
Talk to us about feesA note on the information here. Funding arrangements depend on individual circumstances and assessments. This page is general guidance, not a decision about eligibility or a quote from The Willows. Your local authority, the NHS and independent financial advisers can give advice relevant to your situation.
Understanding the routes
There is more than one way forward.
The right route depends on someone’s care needs and finances. These are common starting points, not a checklist you have to solve alone.
Self-funding
Some people pay for their care themselves, using income, savings or other resources. If this is your situation, ask us for an individual fee discussion and a clear explanation of what is included before making any commitment.
Ask about the care needed, the type of stay and any costs that may be separate.
Local authority assessment
Your local council can assess care needs and, where appropriate, finances to work out whether it may contribute towards care costs. The outcome and any personal contribution depend on the assessment and the council’s arrangements.
Contact the adult social care team for the person’s local authority to ask how to begin.
NHS Continuing Healthcare
For some adults with complex, ongoing health needs, NHS Continuing Healthcare may be relevant. Eligibility is decided through an NHS-led assessment; it is not automatic and cannot be determined by the home.
Ask a health or social care professional whether an assessment might be appropriate.
